When he died Saturday at 79, Mr. Jay Pinson had delivered on his dream to give San Jose State a gleaming new engineering center. In less than a decade as dean of the engineering school, he opened the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering in 1988. He also helped improve the school’s academic reputation, transforming it from a good regional school to one of national note.

$750,000 educational grant awarded for engineering diversity outreach (EurekAlert!)
( University of Texas at Austin ) The Nuclear and Radiation Engineering and Thermal Fluids Systems programs in the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin have been awarded $750,000 to establish an outreach program with historically black colleges and universities to introduce students and faculty to nuclear science and engineering.
